Councilman Brian Kazy Vice-Chair of NLC's Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee

Cleveland (Feb. 27, 2023) - Councilman Brian Kazy has been re-appointed as Vice-Chair of the National League of Cities’ Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee.

“I want to thank NLC President Victoria Woodwards, Mayor of Tacoma, Washington, for the confidence in asking me to continue on as the vice-chair,” Councilman Kazy said. “I’ve been a member of the committee for more than eight years and the work that this committee does is very important and impacts communities across the country, including Cleveland.

“Being on this committee gives me insight into new and effective ideas from cities that have been successful in crime-fighting strategies as well as learning from other cities’ strategies and what they’ve found to be successful in recruiting safety forces,” Councilman Kazy said. “I’m looking forward to serving with Chair Ras Baraja, Mayor of Newark, NJ and Rhonda Jerome, a council member from North Charleston, SC.” 

The Public Safety & Crime Prevention (PSCP) Committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving crime prevention, corrections, substance abuse, municipal fire policy, juvenile justice, disaster preparedness and relief, homeland security, domestic terrorism, court systems and gun control.

Councilman Kazy (Ward 16)  also sits on NLC’s Large Cities Council. The objective of the Large Cities Council (LCC) is to share ideas and successful strategies that solve the unique challenges affecting large cities (with a population of 200,000 or more).

The National League of Cities is a nonpartisan organization comprised of city, town and village leaders that are focused on improving the quality of life for their constituents. Nearing 100 years of working with local governments, the NLC counts more than 2,700 cities across the nation as members.
