In January 2026, Cleveland’s new ward boundaries will take effect, with 15 wards down from 17. While some residents will remain in their current ward, others will be assigned a new ward number. Additionally, many residents may have new council representatives beginning in 2026. Elections for City Council representatives will take place later this year.

Cleveland City Council was required to reduce the number of wards due to population decline, as mandated by the City Charter. The newly drawn boundaries reduction ensures each ward has a roughly equal population while maintaining fair representation for residents.
The new wards take effect in January 2026. However, residents will vote on representation for these wards this year, in 2025. The primary election for the wards with more than two candidates is scheduled for September 9, 2025. The municipal general election is scheduled for November 4, 2025.
