Council Majority Leader and Transportation and Mobility Committee Chair Kerry McCormack joined leaders from “both sides of the pond” in announcing non-stop air service to Dublin, Ireland, through Aer Lingus! Service will begin in May 2023. The announcement is a huge win for Cleveland and northeast Ohio’s residents and business community. Cleveland is now one of only fifteen North American cities with direct service to Ireland.

Council Majority Leader McCormack acknowledged Councilman Charles Slife (ward 17) during his remarks. Councilman Slife serves as Vice Chair of the Mobility and Transportation Committee. Slife’s ward is also home to Hopkins International Airport.

The following individuals and organizations were on hand to make the announcement:
  • Council Majority Leader Kerry McCormack

  • Reid Moody, Aer Lingus Chief Strategy and Planning Officer

  • Lt Gov. Jon Husted

  • Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb

  • County Executive Armond  Budish

  • Council President Pernel Jones Jr.

  • Airport Director Dennis Kramer

  • Terry Slaybaugh, Jobs Ohio VP of Infrastructure & Sites

  • William Koehler, TeamNEO Chief Executive Officer

  • Baiju Shah, Greater Cleveland Partnership CEO

  • Gordon Taylor, Destination Cleveland VP of Sales & Convention Services

  • Ed Crawford, former US Ambassador to Ireland

At the announcement, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted shared the non-stop Aer Lingus service will have an $85 million economic impact over the next three years.

Many Clevelanders have family members in Irewhicho. This is a win for them. Clevelanders who don’t have ties to Ireland benefit from the direct service there because they can easily catch more flights to other European, African, and Asian airports - without connecting through another North American city /airport.
