First Modular Home Installations in Ward 15 by Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity
Sep 03, 2024
Cleveland (Sept. 3, 2024) - Join Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity and Councilmember Jenny Spencer for the installation of Habitat’s first two modular homes in Cleveland on Thursday, September 5th, when cranes set the homes onto their basement foundations.
This innovative construction process will significantly increase Habitat’s existing capacity and allow them to build homes faster to help combat the housing crisis in the City, and also allow Clevelanders to purchase affordable homes at 0% interest mortgage.
As a result of the efforts of Councilmember Spencer (Ward 15), and Council colleagues, Greater Cleveland Habitat received $5 million in ARPA support from City Council. The 19 modular homes being installed in Cleveland neighborhoods are receiving some of that financial support, with each home receiving $90,000. The two homes in Ward 15 are both 3-bed, 2-bath, 1,350 sq. ft. with basements.
"We are so excited to commence the installation of our modular homes in Cleveland. These installations are a major step in helping us complete our 400-Home Initiative," said John Litten, President and CEO of Greater Cleveland Habitat. "None of this would be possible without the immense support from Councilwoman Jenny Spencer. Her partnership on the funding, site acquisition, design, and community engagement has been essential to this project’s success!”
Councilmember Spencer added, "One reason I advocated so strongly to bring Habitat for Humanity homes to Ward 15 is because I want to see continued growth and investment in our neighborhoods, but to do so equitably, with more pathways to homeownership.
"It's exciting to be part of the first wave of Habitat's 400 Home Initiative, with the first modular houses right here on West 83rd Street,” Councilmember Spencer continued. “In addition, these are single-story, mobility-friendly homes, ensuring that residents will age gracefully and comfortably in our community."
Other neighborhoods will also receive modular homes from Habitat including Ward 8 which is slated to receive 10. Councilman Mike Polensek worked to secure the land for the homes in his ward.
