City Council held its regular meeting tonight, both in person in Council Chambers and live streamed. The next Council meeting is Feb. 10. Here are today’s highlights.
Canon Health Care Headquarters in Cleveland: Council approved agreeing to the Job Creation Income Tax Incentive Program with Canon Healthcare USA. The company plans to buy the former IBM building at E. 105 St. and Cedar Ave. Canon intends to invest about $33.7 million in purchasing the building, improvements, machinery, equipment, and more. The investment will transform the 43,000 sq. ft. facility into a state-of-the-art imaging and research center. This will be Canon's national headquarters and will serve as the base for all its medical product lines. The facility will support research and development of imaging technologies. The City will provide a 5-year 50% payroll tax credit on the 2.5% income tax withheld by Canon. Canon expects to create 50 full-time equivalent jobs with an annual payroll of $7.5 million. Ord. Sidewalks, Parades, Parklets, Patios: Council approved changes to ordinances that will overhaul permitting for street obstructions, sidewalk construction, and obstructions, as well as issuing temporary public right-of-way permits for patios and parklets. Ord. No. 1141-2023
Introductions
Legislation was introduced to contract Svona Studio LLC for professional services necessary for the design, production, and installation of a yet-to-be-designed public artwork associated with, and installed at, the renovated Clark Recreation Center. The cost of the contract shall not exceed $80,000.
