Sherwin-Williams
Council approved changing the name of a portion of Public Square, aka a portion of West Roadway, to “Sherwin Way”. With no other addresses on that road, this is a permanent not an honorary name change. Originally sponsored by Councilman Kerry McCormack at the request of the paint company. Ord. No. 809-2024
CXS and Collinwood Rail Yard
Council passed a resolution sponsored by Councilman Mike Polensek opposing CSX railroad company’s plans to reduce train stops and crew members at its Collinwood Rail Yard and supporting Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown’s opposition to those plans. Removing train operators from the Collinwood site will cause more trains to sit idle as they wait for crews to come in from Buffalo or Willard. The result will be idle trains blocking railroad crossings causing delays in delivery of goods by trains, and causing hours-long delays and disruptions on public roads. It will also effect air quality because the trains idle with engines running. Res. No. 1059-2024
Introduced
Legislation was introduced for the city to contribute $750,000 in bond funding for the multi-use trail from Riveredge Road to Little Met Gold Drive which will directly connect Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital and the Kamm's Corners neighborhood to the Metroparks Rocky River Reservation and Emerald Necklace Trail System. Cleveland Metroparks is taking the lead for constructing the "Old Lorain Connector Trail". Councilman Charles Slife is a sponsor. Ord. No. 1048-2024
