Council Meeting Highlights

Sep 23, 2024

City Council held its regular meeting tonight, both in person in Council Chambers and live streamed. Council's next meeting will be Monday, September 30. Here are today’s highlights:

Passenger Boarding Bridges: Council approved the purchase of up to 13 passenger boarding bridges at a cost of $17 million, including but not limited to installation, removal, and disposal, for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The passenger boarding bridges at the CLE airport use gates that are over 30 years old and require continuous specialized maintenance repairs to meet current travel demands. Replacing these outdated bridges will enhance safety, and over time result in substantial maintenance cost savings for the airport. Ord. No. 828-2024

Valet at the Airport: Council authorized for the city to go out for requests for proposals for valet services at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The current contract is set to expire after being in place for several years. Ord. No. 810-2024

Electric Vehicle Charging at the Airport: Council approved legislation to allow policies and procedure to be set for public use of electric vehicle charging stations located at both Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Burke Lakefront Airport. The legislation allows the city to set fees for using the charging stations, as well as set hours and the length of time the cars may stay in the EV parking spaces. Ord. 813-2024

Introduced

Legislation was introduced that would authorize the city to apply for and accept a Brownfields Remediation Program Grant in an amount up to $7,628,055 from the Ohio Department of Development, for demolition, asbestos and waste removal, site remediation, and other necessary services needed for future redevelopment of the former National Acme site, located at 170 and 221 East 130th Street. The city would have to provide cash matching funds in the sum of $2,542,685. Ord. No. 1009-2024
