The Making of a State and US Bike Route System
Mar 17, 2021
Cleveland city council passed a resolution (3/15) to help “establish a statewide network of State and U.S. Bike Routes, which will provide bicyclists with safe and convenient connections through and to population centers and destinations within Ohio.”
The Ohio Department of Transportation recently completed a study on how Ohioans feel about bike routes and whether they use them, where they live and how comfortable they are with them.
The Development, Planning and Sustainabilty Committee with chair Councilman Tony Brancatelli (3/9) heard about the study and the plans to establish a statewide network of State and U.S. Bike Routes, which will provide bicyclists with safe and convenient connections through and to population centers and destinations within Ohio.
They have three goals, but remember in and around Cleveland there's numerous bike and walking trails already, from the Metroparks, to the Towpath Trail, to the Morgana Run and many others that are being improved, expanded and are ready for use. ODOT's plan, to put signage on the Towpath, the Lakefront Bikeway and the Harrison-Dillar/Lake-to-Lake Trail converges with a national bike route plan. ODOT's three goals statewide:
- Short Term – Collect resolutions
- Medium Term – Sign Routes
- Long Term – Improve Accommodations
