Council Meeting Highlights (9/26/22)

Cleveland (Sept. 26, 2022) – City Council held its regular Monday meeting tonight, both in person in Council Chambers and through live streaming. The next regular meeting will be Monday Oct. 3rd. Here are tonight’s highlights:
Recreational Vehicles in Residential Neighborhoods: Council passed legislation enacting new Section 337.19 to regulate parking recreational vehicles in City residential districts. Addresses problems of jamming large recreational vehicles on tiny lots or in between properties; and living in recreational vehicles on foreclosed properties; tapping into electrical lines for free electricity. The new section puts certain requirements on parking recreational vehicles including to be stored in a closed garage except a person may park one recreational vehicle in the open on a concrete parking space in the rear yard. May be parked in a driveway or parking area anywhere on the property for loading and unloading for not more than 48 hours in any consecutive 21 day period. Ord. No. 98-2022.
Woodhill Neighborhood Transformation: Council passed legislation for a loan agreement with Woodhill Homes II LLC, to finance the development of Woodhill Center East affordable housing at 11305 Woodland Avenue. The Woodhill Homes are part of the Buckeye-Woodhill Choice Neighborhood that is working to transform the area. The city will provide $4,919,291 for the Affordable Housing Project. Ord. No. 883-2022
Community Benefits in City Supported Projects: Council passed a resolution to establish a working committee of Council, the Administration, and community stakeholders to study Community Benefits Agreement policies and ordinances, and consider implementing a City policy and ordinance to ensure that development projects provide maximized, tangible benefits to Cleveland’s communities and citizens; and improve reporting practices and public accessibility to workforce and community benefits data and information. Introductions
Direct Flights to Ireland: Legislation was introduced for council to consider providing economic development assistance, up to $600,000, to Team NEO, and/or its designee, to induce Aer Lingus to start and maintain daily direct flight service from Cleveland to the Republic of Ireland for a period of three years. Cuyahoga County recently introduced legislation to support Aer Lingus as well. Ord. No. 978-2022
Upgrading 911 System: A resolution was introduced to strongly encourage the Mayor’s Administration to investigate upgrading the current 9-1-1 emergency response system to a “Next Generation 9-1-1 System” that will provide faster and more reliable emergency assistance by using updated technology to provide real-time information. Councilman Kevin Conwell was the original sponsor, but all of council added their names to the resolution. Res. No. 991-2022 |
