Council Meeting Highlights (11/21/2022)

Cleveland (Nov. 21, 2022) – City Council held its regular Monday meeting tonight, both in person in Council Chambers and through live streaming.  The next regular meeting will be Monday Nov. 28th. Here are tonight’s highlights:

Community-Based Violence Prevention: The city’s Prevention Initiative–Cleveland Project Thrive program will accept, per council approval, about $1,994,908 from the Department of Justice and $76,000 from the Cleveland Foundation.  The grant will support city-led collaborative community violence intervention planning and strategies. This award, funded in part through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, is part of a $100 million investment in community violence intervention programs from the Department of Justice. (Ord. Expanding Programs at Neighborhood Recreation Centers:  Council approved increasing funding by $806,183 to support additional programs in the city’s Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Centers. These additional funds will be used to increase the number of programs that are being provided to youth and families. These expanded programs are aimed at providing youth and the community access to resources, programs and activities that address the root causes of violence; promote healing, wellness, resiliency and self-efficacy; and support residents in developing the skills and knowledge required to thrive and live quality lives. Council had previously approved $1,883,317 and the increased amount is now $2,689,500. (Ord. No. 1204-2022)

New Business: The Mayor’s Appointments Committee will meet on Thursday, Dec. 1^st to interview the administration’s 10 nominees for the new Cleveland Police Commission.
