Hitchcock Center Groundbreaking

Jun 27, 2024

Join Councilman Kevin Conwell and others for the groundbreaking of the Hitchcock Center for Women & Children at 11 am tomorrow (6/28).

The Hitchcock Center helps women break the cycle of substance abuse. It is one of the only residential treatment centers in the region that allows women to stay with their children (up to age 12) while receiving treatment.

While it offers residential treatment, the Hitchcock Center also helps women navigate through to recovery housing. It also offers outpatient treatment for clients while they live at home.

The construction of the new building will be nearby the current facility, in the former St. Mary Seminary of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, which the center has occupied since 1992. The seminary was built in 1924 and there is hope for an adaptive reuse of the striking seminary that sits atop a bluff overlooking Rockefeller Park and the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.

Councilman Conwell (Ward 9) has worked with others to help secure the funding needed for this Glenville institution, which comes in at an estimated $28 million. Besides the residential treatment facility there will also be supportive housing constructed. The groundbreaking is at 11 am Friday, June 28th at 1227 Ansel Road.
