Councilmembers, CWRU Law students and Tanisha Anderson’s family to present “Tanisha’s Law” at press conference

Join Cleveland City Councilmembers, the family of Tanisha Anderson and the Student Legislative Initiative of Cleveland, for a press conference about “Tanisha’s Law” which was recently introduced by Council. The event is planned for Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Case Western Reserve University law school.

    • CWRU students Yaninna Sharpley-Travis and Robert Read
  • WHAT: Press conference to discuss “Tanisha’s Law”, which was introduced to Cleveland City Council on Monday. Tanisha’s Law aims to codify co-response and alternative responses for addressing crisis by equipping Cleveland police, mental health professionals and community members with mental health experience with improved protocols and training for responding to individuals experiencing mental health crises. The Student Legislative Initiative of Cleveland, a group of dedicated CWRU law students committed to impactful local policy, and Council members worked with the family of Tanisha Anderson, who, at 37, tragically died in police custody during a mental health crisis in 2015.

The legislation is jointly-sponsored by Council members Stephanie Howse-Jones, Rebecca Maurer and Charles Slife. Michael Anderson, Tanisha's uncle, will be sharing how the law was birthed and the partnership with CWRU law students.

The press conference will also provide an opportunity to highlight the work of these student advocates and CWRU's engagement in transformative community partnerships.
