Council President Griffin's Statement on CMSD CEO Eric Gordon's Announcement

I thank Eric Gordon for his service to the children and families of Cleveland. CEO Gordon served Cleveland Metropolitan School District for more than fifteen years – the last 11 years as Chief Executive Officer. He figured prominently in the recent improvements to our Cleveland Metropolitan School District, bringing state and national attention to our schools. He led the 2012 Cleveland Schools levy that funded the Cleveland Plan and has worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for our children.

I built a friendship with him on this levy campaign. He and I talked every day for months to make that campaign a success.

It is no secret that our schools need to continue improving – for our students, families, and our neighborhoods. CEO Gordon was a champion for improvement and his successor will have large shoes to fill. Leading the Cleveland Schools is no easy task. Council will work to ensure that like CEO Gordon, his successor is committed to the growth and development of Cleveland’s youth.
