Council President Appointed to National League of Cities' Top Board and Key Committees
Jan 31, 2025
Council President Blaine A. Griffin has been re-appointed as chair to the National League of Cities Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Affairs (FAIR) Federal Advocacy Committee. Council President Griffin is also continuing as a member of NLC’s Board of Directors and has been appointed to its Legislative Action Committee and its Large Cities Council.
The appointments were announced by NLC President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio.
“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are vital for uplifting the voices and needs of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages to decision-makers in Washington,” said NLC President Patterson. “I am excited to work with Council President Griffin and look forward to supporting their vision and leadership as they lead the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations Committee this year and help grow the partnership between local and federal leaders.”
The Legislative Action Committee oversees the implementation of the non-partisan lobbying agenda in partnership with the Executive Committee and the full Board. It also serves as a link between the NLC Federal Advocacy Committees and the Board of Directors.
As a member of the 2025 Large Cities Council, Council President Griffin will have the opportunity to share ideas and hear successful strategies that solve the unique challenges affecting large US cities.
As chair of NLC’s FAIR Committee, Council President Griffin will be leading the committee responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on municipal finance and intergovernmental relations with the federal government.
“I’m excited and honored to have been appointed to these NLC boards and committees," Council President Griffin said. “The year ahead will be momentous. Advocating on behalf of Cleveland and America's cities and towns may be daunting. But policymakers in Washington must understand the issues and challenges facing America’s cities, towns, and villages at the local level.
“Now, more than ever, the federal policymakers need to understand their actions have a direct and profound impact on local government operations.”
NLC’s federal advocacy committees play a crucial role in advancing the policies and priorities of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages with federal policymakers.
