Council Meeting Highlights
Jan 06, 2025
City Council held its regular meeting tonight, both in person in Council Chambers and live streamed. The next Council meeting is Jan. 13th. Here are today’s highlights.
Council Adopts a 15-Ward Map: Council approved a new 15-Ward map. The City Charter mandates the city use Census data to determine how many members will be seated on City Council. As of the 2020 US Census, the city of Cleveland has a population of 372,624 people, compared to 396,815 people in the 2010 US Census – a 6.10% decline over ten years.
By falling under the 375,000-population threshold, per US Census reports, the City Charter mandates that the Council be comprised of 15 members – two less than the current member count of 17. Ord. No. 1-2025
The public can view the final map as well as earlier maps over the years when council had 33, 21, and 19 wards at www.clevelandcitycouncil.org/cleveland-city-council-redistricting.
