Oct 28, 2024

City Council held its regular meeting tonight, both in person in Council Chambers and live streamed. Council's next meeting will be Nov. 4. Here are today’s highlights:

Support to Convert Vacant Hotel into Housing for Recovery: Council approved an $150,000  grant agreement with Jonad Properties, LLC, (Alliant Health's real-estate holding company) to provide economic development assistance to partially finance the Alliant Health expansion project and renovation of a vacant hotel. Councilman Anthony Hairston sponsored the legislation.

Alliant Health is a treatment based organization located in Shaker Heights, focusing on drug addiction recovery, psychiatric care, and mental health services for low-income adults struggling with opioids and other substance abuse challenges.

Alliant Health has recently acquired a vacant property located at 17027 Euclid Avenue. The property is a former hotel with approximately 29,000 square feet of space and situated on over an acre. Alliant Health plans to convert the new property into a housing facility for individuals who have recently recovered from drug and alcohol addiction and are successfully managing their conditions on an outpatient basis. Total project costs are expected to exceed $350,000.

Residents will have access to job and skills training, educational services, employment support and medical care. Ord. No. 1168-2024
