Cleveland City Council Stands United Against Hate
Oct 29, 2024
Cleveland City Council condemns the xenophobic, racist, anti-Semitic, and anti-Arab comments made by a comedian at the October 27 rally held by former President Donald Trump. The remarks not only perpetuate hate but also undermine the values of inclusivity and respect that our community holds dear.
Councilwoman Jasmin Santana (Ward 14) expressed her deep disappointment, stating, "I know many felt the same shock and disappointment from the hurtful, racist comments made by the so-called comedian at this weekend’s hate rally sponsored by the former president. It was disheartening, and I felt it deeply. But I quickly realized that I refuse to let hate and ignorance diminish our strength. Instead, I’m channeling that energy into something powerful: my voice at the polls on November 5th. I encourage Cleveland to stand with me and harness our collective power. Our strength is in our vote. Let’s turn our frustration into action and make our voices heard! Together, we can create the change we want to see!"
Council President Blaine A. Griffin (Ward 6) also emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in the face of hate. "We will not be divided by the malicious rhetoric that seeks to diminish our community. We must stand together, uplift one another, and take action through our voting power. This is our moment to rise above negativity and work towards a brighter future for all."
City Council celebrates the diversity and rich contributions of all Clevelanders. Together, we will work to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
As we approach the upcoming elections, Cleveland City Council urges all community members to utilize their voices and participate in the democratic process. Our unity and determination can transform frustration into significant change.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th. Polls will be open from 6:30 am - 7:30 pm. Early in-person voting continues through Sunday, November 3rd.
