Cleveland City Council Budget Hearings Kick Off February 18
Feb 17, 2025
Mark your calendars! Following Presidents' Day, Cleveland City Council will dive into the crucial process of shaping our city's future – the annual budget hearings begin February 18th. The City’s general fund budget of $805.7 million directly impacts residents, visitors, and businesses. The budget hearings are your chance to witness democracy in action and see how your tax dollars are proposed to be spent.
The hearings are scheduled to last at least through February 27, with council members meticulously examining the Mayor's 2025 Budget Estimate (delivered February 1st, as mandated by the City Charter), hearing from every city department and division. Council holds the power to refine and revise this spending plan, ensuring it reflects the priorities of our community.
Your Voice Matters!
This isn't just a formality – your input is vital. Council actively encourages residents to engage in the budget process. Concerned about funding for parks? Have ideas about improving public safety? Now's the time to be heard!

The Budget Timeline
The budget process is designed for transparency and accountability. After the hearings, the budget must go through three readings. While changes can be made after the first reading, no alterations are permitted after the second. A seven-day "layover" period after publication in the City Record ensures ample time for public review. By law, Council must approve the final budget, incorporating any changes, in March, so it's finalized by April 1st.
Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of shaping Cleveland's future! Attend the hearings, share your feedback, and make a difference!
