Highlights of Cleveland City Council's 3/26/18 Meeting

March 26, 2018
Cleveland (March 26, 2018) – City Council tonight unanimously adopted the Cleveland's 2018 budget.

In other highlights, the legislative body:

  • Introduced a resolution urging Mayor Jackson’s administration to require special police forces working in Cleveland’s jurisdictions to undergo racial bias and sensitivity training. The resolution cites reports of Case Western Reserve University’s campus police stopping people due to their race, including Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Conwell who is African American. The resolution ensures that “all law-abiding citizens, no matter their race, creed or color are free from unwarranted stops based on racial profiling.”

  • Accepted donated ice cream treats from Pierre’s Ice Cream for the “Let’s Chill Together” summer program, which promotes positive, friendly interactions between city kids, young adults and police officers. The program, initiated last summer, has uniformed police officers visiting parks and recreation centers to hand out free frozen treats from an ice cream truck. The idea is for young people and officers to see each other as friends in casual, sociable settings. Last year, Pierre’s donated 10,000 frozen treats to the program.
