Cleveland City Council and others are proud sponsors of a seminar focused on using code enforcement as a tool to combat foreclosure and abandonment to take place Friday, March 27, 2009 between 9 am and 3:30 pm at Trinity Commons, 2230 Euclid Avenue.
Featured speaker and presenter Joe Schilling, a founding member of the National Vacant Properties Campaign facilitates strategic problem solving among federal, state and local officials, neighborhood groups, the housing industry, and community development practitioners to reclaim vacant properties and rebuild cities.
The seminar also includes code enforcement workshops in the morning, a luncheon address by Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis and a special session for municipal professionals.
Council’s sponsorship of the seminar is yet another step in Cleveland City Council’s efforts to combat foreclosure. Since the start of the current term in January 2006, Cleveland City Council has focused on the foreclosure crisis and the resulting presence of vacant and abandoned properties in the City of Cleveland. Cleveland City Council’s efforts to Break the Cycle of Abandonment include a four step, holistic approach, addressing Detection, Prevention, Maintenance and Blight Elimination, and Redevelopment.
Council is joined by Neighborhood Progress Inc, the First Suburbs Consortium, the Cleveland Neighborhood Development Coallition, the Cleveland Building and Housing Department and the Vacant and Abandoned Property Action Council in sponsoring the event.
